Mirrors
More IKEA! $15, here! |
This one is a little obvious for those of you who (like me) watch waaaay too much HGTV. I could tell you how mirrors open up a space, but most of you know that. What I'll tell you instead is that mirrors are great because they come in a lot of varieties and a range of prices, AND they actually DO serve a purpose: checking out how hot you undoubtedly look.
Mirrors like this one are great because you can arrange them to your tastes and it pretty much always works out super duper. Sunburst mirrors are also a huge trend and I think when done right they have the potential to look amazing (and when done wrong have the potential to transform your home into an abomination)! The good news is it's almost impossible to do this look wrong, so it's an easy way out for those of you like me who have artistic vision but aren't always certain how to execute. Mirrors with cute frames are also good!
Mirrors however are sometimes difficult to navigate in that some people go a little crazy with them. Find a balance. Please don't become my grandmother who has a gallery wall of small mirrors. One big mirror, or two to three (four if you're daring!) medium sized mirrors are great. Small mirrors aren't a complete no no, but don't buy enough of them that it is EQUAL to one large mirror. Yikes.

Throw Pillows
Target On sale for $12.49 |
This is another one of those things I didn't even have until a few days ago, which is surprising since I honestly believe throw pillows are almost a necessity. To me, a couch doesn't look like it's meant to be used if you don't have throw pillows and a cozy blanket. So why did I have neither of those things??? I have no idea, but I intend to rectify the situation immediately. Throw pillows however are sometimes pricey. Especially if you have a small wallet (heh heh). Target usually has fairly good prices, and if you're willing to forego prints, you can usually end up with cheaper alternatives in solid colors (the two throw pillows I bought in my bedding post the other day cost $10 each, regularly). You can then, at a later date, buy or make (if you're crafty) covers as your style changes, or as you come into more funds.
Well, boys and girls, this post was certainly not as long as before, but I'm hoping as I get further along in the moving process (and the nesting process) I'll have more to share. Thanks so much for reading and PLEASE let me know if you have anything to add on the accents discussion!
